The ancient settlement at Khirokitia

The ancient settlement of Chirokitia (named after a nearby village) because of its preservation and the abundance of finds is unique among Neolithic archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. Researchers are still not clear the origin of this ancient Cypriot culture. A number of local and foreign historians believe that its early phases must be sought as a matter of Cyprus and on the Asian mainland. The results of archaeological research allow to speak about the contacts of the inhabitants of Khirokitia with Anatolia, the ancient settlements of the valley of Antioch and Northern Syria. Data of radiocarbon analysis showed that the population of Khirokitia occurred in approximately 5000 BC

2 December 1998 settlement of Choirokoitia was included in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites under number 848 according to IV, V, VI criteria, as this settlement, first, the earliest phase of studies for the Cyprus procainamidesee Neolithic period (criterion IV); secondly, a characteristic example of a significant human settlement, fragile as a result of its great antiquity and its location in a rapidly changing environment (criterion V); finally, the settlement related to the ideas and beliefs of historical importance, which is manifested in several aspects of material culture: for example, the use in funeral rites figurines testifies to ritual and religiondispatches (criterion VI). Rich land of Cherkasy region the mysteries of centuries that hides in the depths of their lands. Especially those that date from 4-6 millennia BC. Cell Trypillya settlements, which are a unique phenomenon of the era, not so long ago were opened in the Talne district, Cherkasy region, has already caused a considerable resonance among the scientific community.

September 10, staff of Uman national University of horticulture visited the excavations at the largest settlements of Trypillya culture in S. Talanki, which is one of structural divisions of the University – Malenkovskaya agrotechnical College. From the words of the archaeologists who work here, students and staff of the mentioned College are actively involved not only in the organization of the excavation, but also promote the holding of international conferences and symposiums on archaeology.

On the excavations of Trypillian settlements near S. Talanki dealt with by the Institute of archaeology of NAS of Ukraine, working archaeologists of Germany (in addition to excavations, doing Geophysics and valeology), and also involved students from the cities of Kiev, Vinnitsa and Uman. For young researchers it is not just manufacturing practices, and above all a unique opportunity to touch rare, filled with the memory of centuries of things that were before time hidden from the human eye layers of the soil.

With slivnik project on the study of settlements-the giants of Tripoli culture, scientific Secretary of the Institute of archaeology of NAS of Ukraine, candidate of historical Sciences Alexey Corwin-Piotrowski, thanks to geophysical survey in sec. A group of seven representatives of the University of Washington will arrive in Chita on 30 June and the next day will go to the excavations of the archaeological site of Ust-Menza in Krasnochikoysky the edge of the area, will run for three weeks. A common theme of their research, according to the scientist, devoted to initial development of man, Asia and America, to study their environment and material culture.
