The archaeologists found about 900 artifacts of medieval Moscow in XVII century wooden bridge in Zaryadye
Wooden pavement of the seventeenth century, which marks the route known from historic plans curve lane found during archaeological excavations in the Eastern part of Zaryadye, where the site of the demolished hotel “Russia” Park is under construction. About it has informed journalists the General Director of LLC “Capital archaeological Bureau” Konstantin Voronin.
According to him, on the pavement, archaeologists found about 900 artifacts which attest the trade and the everyday life of the medieval Moscow.
“The development of this place started in the XVI century and so most of the findings related to the XVI century, but mainly from the XVII century. All in all we have about 900 pieces. This extraordinary cultural richness of the remnants of the layers of Zaryadye. We get about 10 individual finds on 1 sq m of excavation. That’s a lot,” said K. Voronin.
In particular, on the pavement have found a Swedish coin, fragments of the score and wrote – these findings say about active trading in the area, including foreign countries. In addition, in the area of the curve lane was found a fragment of metal chain mail, which, according to experts, suggests that they were inhabited by professional soldiers and wealthy people. During reconstruction of the Church of the Holy sepulchre was consecrated in the city of Kursk, in November-December-2015 staff Inspection on protection of objects of cultural heritage of Kursk region on separate sites conducted archaeological work.
According to the chief specialist of the Department of archaeology of the inspection Vereyskiy Novel, was the study area of about 70 square meters, where found artifacts of different eras. Mass burials in mass graves, found among the remains of the shrapnel firearms and silver coins of the seventeenth century indicate that this burial of the monks and defenders of the Znamensky monastery in the early stage of its existence. To unambiguously characterize this unique funerary complex would allow dalneishego study with the involvement of specialists-anthropologists.

18 may 2015, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has opened a renovated Museum of archaeology of Moscow at the Manege square. In opening ceremony took part the Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin, head of the Department of culture of Moscow Alexander Kibovsky, Director General of the Museum Association “Moscow Museum” Alina Saprykina.
According to the mayor, in 1997, the Museum of archaeology of Moscow was opened with serious disturbances, so after only 15 years it was reconstructed (in the Museum replaced engineering networks, upgraded ventilation systems, lighting and fire safety carried out the partial replanning of the internal spaces, which include automated access control system). “Now here is the most modern Museum equipment. So I think it will be for many years to serve the citizens and visitors of the capital, to delight them with their exhibitions,” said Sergei Sobyanin.
“Today is a joyful and long – awaited event- after years of reconstruction, opened the Museum of archaeology. The Museum is known and loved by Muscovites. Of course, it was very sad, when people are passing and walking in the center of Moscow, approached him and saw the word “Museum renovation”. We with great joy we open the Museum for Muscovites. And happily for archaeologists, because the Museum is not only a methodological center, but also the main custodian of all archaeological finds” — said the Minister of Moscow Government, head of the Department of culture of Moscow Alexander Kibovsky.
The Museum of archaeology of Moscow is a branch of Museum Association “Moscow Museum”. It is located in the heart of the capital, at the Manege square – a popular tourist spot. The opening of the Museum in 1997 was timed to the 850th anniversary of Moscow. Continue reading
