Brief description: (concept, introduction to the profession, the essence of the profession, General description, main features, information about the profession) Archaeologist — a scientist who studies the life and culture of ancient civilizations by the preserved remains of their life. The main objective of the work of an archaeologist included excavations to search for research sources. Archaeology is often compared to detective work. This is a creative profession, as you have to use imagination and abstract thinking to recreate the pristine picture of the world of the past. Scientists-archeologists work with individual tiles that need to be put together to solve the mystery. Sometimes on full disclosure of the secrets of any ancient culture or archaeological site takes years.
The history of the profession: (the emergence of the profession, the history of the development of the profession) the profession of the archaeologist was popular in Ancient Rome and Greece. Even then people knew about the stone, bronze and iron ages, excavated and found ancient architectural monuments. Researchers have discovered the remains of the ship “Terra Nova”, which in the early 20th century British polar Explorer Robert Scott set off to conquer the South pole. About the discovery reported on the official site of the Ocean Institute Schmidt, who provided the ship for the expedition. The ship was discovered on July 21, however, is known about the discovery said.
The discovery was made during testing of equipment on Board R/V Falkor off the coast of Greenland. The region for testing was chosen for several reasons – the depth here ranges from 10 to 1800 meters, the bottom is in different places has a different composition (the composition affects the way in from the bottom reflected signal), and details of the relief clearly visible.

Not the last argument was the fact that here in 1943 sank the famous ship the “Terra Nova”, which at the time was carrying supplies to the Arctic. The vessel was damaged by ice and the crew was rescued by the U.S. coast guard, so the area where the ship sank was known. According to scientists, the sounders found the ship some 10 days after the start of the expedition.
The instruments showed that the length korablestoiteley 57 meters, which is consistent with historical data on “Terra Nova”. To make sure that they face the legendary ship, the scientists sent to explore automatic probe SHRIMP (Simple High Resolution IMaging Package), which is simply a rigid frame with a fixed engine, a pair of cameras and illumination. Received by the device image finally confirmed that the scientists “Terra Nova”. Continue reading
At the end of August on the shores of the White sea near the village of Ceret on the area of about one hectare were discovered and partially excavated the remains of large dwellings of ancient humans, arranged in three lines of 20, 10 and 5-6 poluzemlyanok. One of them consists of 12 “rooms”. In another, archaeologists have excavated a hearth, ceramics and made of slate tip hunting Darts.
At the conclusion of a scientific expedition leader Nadezhda Lobanova, a settlement dated to the early metal age, about five thousand years is the emergence of the civilizations of Ancient Egypt and Sumer. In the primitive city, as he was called archaeologists, spent the winter hunting sea mammals.
— Pits — traces of dwellings of ancient man — we were informed last year a local historian Yury Rybakov. In October, we came here and made sure that there is something to do holes like the ones that we previously examined in Smotrova — told us Nadezhda Lobanova. — We received this research grant of the Russian geographical society in the summer and went to explore Carlsberg. What we found at kereti exceeded all our expectations. It is a pity that time we had quite a few. I think that in future seasons (of course, in case of receiving a new grant), we expect new amazing discoveries.
However, the town where lived the contemporaries of the Egyptian pharaohs, was not the only discovery of this expedition. A new discovery awaited the archaeologists in Ivankovo tone, one kilometer from the ancient settlement. Yuri Rybakov drew attention to the fact that the moss-covered stones near the sea shore as if form a circular shape. The result was a round maze with a diameter of 11 meters, which is three meters above sea level. Continue reading
