Strange fossils in the Kotovsky district. Dinosaur eggs or not? — The investigation.

The end of last week brought a sensation in the Volgograd region: in the village Wet Olkhovka Kotovsky district discovered dinosaur eggs.

Discovery is really amazing. In a small area, in shallow gullies, after the collapse of soil during floods, it seemed to light 15 fossils the shape of an egg. They have a diameter of 1-1,2 meters. True, some of them not so similar to “eggs” — one fossil has the form of dumbbells, in which two balls connected by a crosspiece. Unfortunately, it is almost completely placed in the ground, so to consider it thoroughly is not possible.

— Specialist from Moscow, arrived at the scene of the discovery, suggested that this dinosaur eggs, said local boys and boasted . — They cost 500 thousand rubles.

This conclusion has sparked skepticism among scientists. The fact that the largest found a dinosaur egg does not exceed 30 cm in length. The kid hatching from it, too, was small — he had to grow very quickly to reach the size of an adult specimen.

— It seems to me that these fossils are not similar to the eggs of ancient reptiles — Leonid doubts Smelov . — On the territory of the Volgograd region was lapping a warm prehistoric sea, so there are more likely to find the remains of marine reptiles, like ichthyosaurs.Such remains, in particular, found Alexander Yarkov — member of the paleontological society at the Russian Academy of Sciences, the teacher of the Volga humanitarian Institute. He put forward the theory that the fossils in Wet Olhovka, it is likely the lime formation. Although it would probably not limestone, but something like iron ore. Continue reading

In Germany, the badger found ancient graves with the treasures

German archaeologists was indebted to badger: the beast helped them to make a significant discovery. You can tell that the animal was the first who found the medieval Slavic burial of two princes, in which he found valuable artifacts, according to News .

The striped animal, perfectly adapted to digging underground tunnels, made a hole on site in the farm, 75 kilometres North-East of Berlin. By some coincidence, on the farm at this time had two sculptor, a great interest in archaeology – Lars Willem and Hendrik the Ring.

“We have noticed sticking out of the ground pelvic bone, definitely belonged to a man – said Ring Spiegel Online. – We were not surprised, because across the road from here in 1960-ies it was discovered the whole field of ancient graves. But we still put the camera in a badger hole and using the remote control took a few pictures”. Photos of archaeologists-lovers saw fragments of jewelry and immediately reported his find to the local authorities.

All this happened in the fall of 2012, and since then, no sign of badgers on the farm were seen – most likely, he left his hole. And this week scientists have made a discovery, made by beast, soobshenie. In the place which a badger was chosen for creating a home, we found eight ancient graves of the first half of the XII century.

Archaeologist Thomas Kersting from the Department of protection of monuments of the Federal land of Brandenburg is certain: this discovery is of great value. “First we don’t found graves like that in Brandenburg. So this is a very important discovery”, – he said.

At the feet of the skeletons, buried there, was found the bronze vessels. “This suggests that the people buried here belonged to the elite. They had bronze bowls in which they wash their hands before dinner – they knew it was supposed to do,” – said the expert. Continue reading
